I don't have an exact count but Kevin has done this trip over 10 times. If you do it so many times, the repetition breeds tradition. One of the biggest traditions of the trip is to stop at G's Pizza in Kalkaska, Michigan and order a the largest "heman" pizza. It is the last opportunity to carbo load to ensure nobody crash out with a lack of energy. The only difference this year was the groceries included a bottle of Hot Louisiana Sauce. Normally this is the time Kyle remembers that he likes it "hot" and then "buys" a bottle from Mr G's.
This pizza is large enough to feed all of us. It is also the last opportunity to enjoy a beer. We spend the night in a hotel on the American side of Sault St. Marie. The town straddles the rapids where Lake Superior flows into Lake Michigan. This allows us to cross the border very early with a 3 hour drive to Lake Superior Adventures in Wawa. Our target is around 9 am.
At LSA we pick up shuttle drivers to drop us off at Hattie's Cove in Pukaskwa National Park. They will return the vehicles to LSA to have our vehicles ready when we complete our trip. This is generally the most expensive item for the trip.
David realized that he the driver's wouldn't be able to complete the trip and we had to make an unscheduled stop for some gas. Lee offered to pay and confusion erupted.
